A longtime home for a nonprofit that provides mental health services for children is for sale in Southeast Portland.

The property at 3390 S.E. Milwaukie Ave. has been through many incarnations, but presently is the base for the alcohol and drug recovery program of Morrison Child and Family Services. The 12,084-square-foot property is for sale at an asking price of $550,000, significantly less than the listed market value of $976,230. The property is under contract.

The building, painted an eggshell color with dark green trim, was built in 1911 and is known for formerly being the Doc Watson Nickelodeon and Dance Hall. The building includes a stage where the theater was.

鈥淭he offices there are built on the theater’s slanted floor,鈥 said Tom Slick, chief financial officer of Morrison Child and Family Services, 鈥渟o everyone has to be careful where they put their file drawers.鈥

The property is listed as a historical tour stop by the Brooklyn Historical Society, which runs a tour in the Brooklyn neighborhood.

The building’s owner, Pat Hanlin, bought the building in 1998. He says the building is 鈥渓ow maintenance鈥 but would work well as an owner-user property.

Morrison Child and Family Services is leaving the building because it is consolidating its operations. It plans to vacate as many as three of its existing properties by February 2012 and move some operations to a new building at Northeast 111th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard. TEAM Construction is the general contractor for the remodel of the Sandy Boulevard building. Morrison Child and Family Services is planning for other remodels as its leases expire in the future and it consolidates further.
