Columbia River Crossing approval appealed by business, neighborhood groups

Oregon’s Land Use Board of Appeals heard from four groups that oppose the Columbia River Crossing project at a hearing Thursday.

The groups appealed Metro’s decision to approve the land use final order for the CRC project, which includes a replacement of the Interstate 5 bridge between Portland and Vancouver, Wash., a light-rail line and freeway expansions and improvements on both the Oregon and Washington sides of the river.

During the hearing Thursday, Portland’s Northeast Coalition of Neighborhoods and the Coalition for a Livable Future, Plaid Pantry, Weber Coastal Bells and Jantzen/Angel LLC testified against the approval from regional government Metro, and representatives of Metro and TriMet defended their positions.

LUBA will issue its decision on or before Oct. 27. That decision will be able to be appealed to the Oregon Supreme Court.
