The 1,200 employees from the Edith Green 鈥� Wendell Wyatt Federal Building had to go somewhere else while the building was being renovated. That included moving furniture, computers and other material from 23 different government agencies 鈥� no easy task.

To make matters worse, many of the buildings the employees were moving into on a temporary basis didn鈥檛 have adhesive on their carpet tiles. Moving heavy equipment over that type of floor would require extra care to make sure tiles didn鈥檛 come loose during the moving process. Movers at Lile Moving & Storage rose to the challenge, said Chad O鈥橞rien, contract specialist for the federal building.

鈥淭o prevent this problem from happening in the future, Lile covered the tiles with masonite,鈥� he said.

Lile generally brought order to the chaos of moving.

鈥淥n the first major day, there was considerable congestion at the elevators because agencies had booked several vendors to deliver new equipment and supplies to their new offices without considering the fact that the moving company would be using these same elevators,鈥� O鈥橞rien said. 鈥淏ecause of this bottleneck, Lile was forced to work additional hours to complete the moves scheduled for that day.鈥�

Company officials also offered to share trucks with other vendors. Lile, based in Tacoma, Wash., was founded in 1959 by Wendell Lile and is now owned by his daughters Barbara Lile and Diane Deautremont. The company employs about 275 full-time workers.
