Nineteen Oregon attorneys recently were singled out as finalists in the second annual Leadership in Law awards program. The program was created by Briefly Legal and its parent publication, the Daily Journal of Commerce,  to pay tribute to long-standing members of the legal community in Oregon.

Making the cut this year as finalists are: Robert Barton, a senior partner with Cosgrave Vergeer Kester; Akin Blitz, an attorney with Bullard Law; Larry Brisbee, a partner with Brisbee and Stockton; Jerry Carleton, president of Immix Law Group; Dayna Christian, an attorney with Immix Law Group; Lea Ann Easton, a partner with Dorsay and Easton; Peter Glade, managing shareholder of Markowitz, Herbold, Glade and Mehlhaf; Laurel P. Hook, managing shareholder of Stahancyk, Kent and Hook; James Howsley, an attorney with Jordan Ramis; Josh Kadish, an attorney with Wyse Kadish; Wayne Landsverk, a partner with Miller Nash; Jill Laney, managing partner with Cosgrave Vergeer Kester; Mark Long and David Bartz, co-nominees from Schwabe, Williamson and Wyatt; Thomas Matsuda, executive director of Legal Aid Services of Oregon; Steven Shropshire, managing shareholder of Jordan Ramis; Jon Stride, a partner of Tonkon Torp; Steven Ungar, a shareholder with Lane Powell; Tim Volpert, a partner with Davis Wright Tremaine; and Mark Wada, a shareholder with Farleigh Wada Witt.

The 91ÊÓƵ sent out a call for nominees earlier this year. Submissions were handed to a pre-screening committee that selected the pool of finalists. The 19 finalists will now be judged by a panel of professionals from the Oregon legal industry; they will use criteria such as community involvement and mentorship to determine the winner.

The 2012 Leadership in Law finalists will be recognized during a dinner event that will run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., March 15, at The Nines hotel in downtown Portland. Tickets are $80 per person if purchased by March 10, or $95 thereafter. Tickets are $35 for students.
