Relax reality show addicts — we’re not talking about a new addition to the summer television lineup.

We’re referring instead to the latest bill to move forward in the last few days — or should we say hours? — of the Oregon Legislature’s short and not-necessarily-so-sweet 2012 session.

The Oregon Capitol News reports that the state House on Monday passed House Bill 4026 by a vote of 50-10. The bill calls for the creation of three new appellate judge positions in the fall of next year.

The bill has undergone a couple of changes since it started winding its way through the Legislature. The original bill called for three new judges to be placed on benches in 2013, but House Judiciary Committee members voted to bump up that number to a total of six by adding three more judges in 2015.

The Ways and Means Committee struck down the additional three judges, however.

The Legislative Fiscal Office estimates that adding three new judge position for the 2013-15 biennium will cost about $2.9 million.
