Small businesses can learn more about federal contracting opportunities at a free education and networking event March 7, from 8 a.m. to noon, at .
The event is organized by the Power Up! Small Business Teams Project, a partnership among the Portland Development Commission, Mercy Corps NW, the Metropolitan Contractor Improvement Project and the Astra Women鈥檚 Business Alliance.
The Power Up! Project recently received a pilot grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration to help engage more small businesses, especially those owned by women and minorities, in federal contracting. A 鈥渢eaming鈥 technique included in the grant allows firms with less experience to team together to function as one subcontractor for large federal contractors or federal procurements.
Event attendees can learn about this technique, as well as the basics of federal contracting. Attendees will also have a chance to network with local federal contractors from Johnson Controls, Stantec, Howard S. Wright and the U.S. Forest Service.
