The president of a local mechanical engineering firm has been picked to help decide the winning projects of one of the nation’s most prestigious green awards.

President Paul Schwer will be a juror for the American Institute of Architects Committee on the Environment 2012 Top Ten Green Project Awards.

Schwer was selected among six green building experts to fly to Washington, D.C., next week to vote on entries submitted by design firms from across the nation. Judging criteria will be based on creativity, efficiency and innovation in environmentally sustainable design.

An experienced green building designer himself, Schwer has provided building system designs for a number of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design rated buildings in the Northwest, including one of AIA’s 2011 Top Ten Green Project wWinners: the LOTT Clean Water Alliance Administration and Education building in Olympia, Wash.

Now in its 16th year, the AIA’S Top Ten Program is one of the most well-known sustainable design recognition programs in the nation.
