Law school: Willamette University Law School

Career highlight: Selected as the first recipient of the Washington County Bar Association鈥檚 Professionalism award.

Noteworthy: Viewed by his peers and colleagues as a 鈥渢ireless volunteer,鈥� he has been known to personally promote and conduct seminars where young lawyers can hone their skills.

As Larry Brisbee was graduating from Willamette University鈥檚 College of Law in 1967, tensions were rising in Vietnam. Brisbee served six years on active duty as a member of the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General鈥檚 Corps, an experience he considers invaluable.

鈥淚t gave a young lawyer who really didn鈥檛 have a whole lot of experience the opportunity to do things of significance immediately,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 was trying court-martial cases that involved major criminal acts and had a chance to do things coming out of law school that most young lawyers don鈥檛 get to do.鈥�

Upon his return in 1973, Brisbee entered into private practice with what was then known as Schwenn, Bradley, Batchelor & Bailey. The firm became Brisbee & Stockton, with Brisbee specializing in defending hospitals, physicians, attorneys, architects, engineers and other professionals in negligence cases.

鈥淭he kind of work I do is primarily litigation and each case poses a little different challenge than the last one. It鈥檚 a continued opportunity to learn something new all the time because every case is different and I always learn something that I didn鈥檛 know before,鈥� he said.

A Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, Brisbee is recognized by Best Lawyers in America and Oregon Super Lawyers. His firm is recognized as one of the Best Law Firms in America, by U.S. News and World Report.

Brisbee was the first recipient of the Washington County Bar Association鈥檚 Professionalism Award, and he provides pro bono legal advice for the Hillsboro School District. In addition, he helps lead the Campaign for Equal Justice鈥檚 fundraising efforts.

Brisbee said he is committed to mentoring young attorneys at his firm and through the Oregon Association of Defense Counsel because it gives him a chance to give back to the community.

鈥淚 had a great mentor in Carrell Bradley when I was a young lawyer, and I see it as an opportunity to give back a little bit of what was given to me,鈥� he said.
