The rebuilding of the fire-damaged Marysville School in Southeast Portland is back in motion.

is the architect and engineer for the rebuild, and 14 pre-qualified general contractors will be able to bid on the project May 1.

Portland Public Schools initially planned a $21 million facility to replace the school, which was also designed by DLR Group. But the money to build the state-of-the-art facility was incorporated into PPS’s $548 million construction bond, which failed to win voters’ support last year.

The school is now using $4.5 million in fire insurance proceeds – along with $300,000 of district money – to reconstruct the K-8 school at its original site, 7733 S.E. Raymond St. The finished building will be approximately 68,750 square feet and will house up to 550 students. Construction costs are estimated to range between $3 million and $3.4 million.

PPS hopes to have a contractor selected by the end of April, and the new Marysville K-8 school is on schedule to open January 2013, according to PPS spokesman Matt Shelby.
