In anticipation of the Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail project, TriMet is looking to ramp up its command center and operations facilities.

TriMet has called for bids for construction manager/general contractor services to renovate the agency’s Center Street Administration Building. The renovated building will include a new, expanded Operations Command Center, as well as expanded operations facilities. The project, called 鈥淢oving Together,鈥� is estimated to cost $10 million.

The current command center is located at the Ruby Junction light-rail station in Gresham. That facility would remain as a backup to the new one, but several of TriMet’s other facilities will need to be demolished to make way for the new light-rail line that will run down Southeast 17^th Avenue. Those facilities include a building at Southeast 17^th Avenue and Holgate Street that is leased by TriMet for operations staff. Another a small facilities maintenance building will also be demolished.

The renovation of the 36-year-old, 67,000-square-foot Center Street building will provide space for some displaced staffers, but Harriet Cherry of , the firm designing the renovation, said TriMet also plans to renovate additional space at a yet to be determined location.

Pivot is in the early design phase of the project, but Cherry said the firm is seeking a silver rating in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The renovation will include extensive mechanical and electrical upgrades, improved interior materials and better natural light, she said. The focus for the renovation is the creation of more open work spaces, she said.

鈥淭hat’s how you get your natural light, and it’s how you control your mechanical systems. And it also helps people work collaboratively,鈥� she said.

TriMet held a pre-bid meeting April 4. Bids for the project are due April 19.
