The city of Beaverton is moving forward with its plans to redevelop the city’s downtown area.

A request for proposals has gone out for the $2.5 million Creekside District Master Plan, which could add multiple affordable housing units, parks and business structures to the area between Canyon Road and Beaverton Creek.  The project also includes rehabilitating the area’s creeks and creating more transportation accessibility.

According to the city’s 20-year Civic Plan, plans for the district may include 20 housing units, 230,000 square feet of retail space and 600,000 square feet of office space. However, Laura Kelly, senior planner for the city, said it is undetermined at this time how extensive construction will be.

Funding is coming from a HUD Community Challenge Grant rewarded to the city in February.  As part of the grant, construction has to be completed in three years.  Bidding is expected to close on June 8, and planning is tentatively scheduled to begin on August 6.
