DLR Group lands top spot on Architect Magazine’s top 50 list

An architecture firm that works in Portland has landed the top spot on Architect Magazine’s top 50 list.

The firm, , was started in Nebraska, but has had an office in Portland for 26 years. The group has ranked in the top 10 each year since the list debuted in 2009.

The list was based on a number of factors, including sustainability, design efficiency and the firm’s impact on the local community. The goal of the list is to “reward accomplishments according to the broadest possible criteria,” according to the magazine’s website.

As part of the award, the magazine mentioned DLR’s work on Joplin Interim High School in Missouri, which was built after a tornado tore down the original school. The DLR Portland office was heavily involved in the project, said Justin Stranzl, an associate with the firm.

has also designed a number of school projects in the Portland area, including the soon-to-be-constructed Marysville School, which sustained fire damage in 2009.

Portland’s ZGF Architects is also on the list, ranked at number four.
