Oregon State University officials are launching a feasibility study to investigate the possibility of renovating the west side of Reser Stadium, said Athletic Director Bob De Carolis.

“The overriding purpose of the study will be to help us determine the viability of upgrading the west side of the stadium — or the ‘old’ side’ as it has become known — since we modernized and upgraded the east side of the stadium,” De Carolis said.

He added the feasibility study will take at least a year to complete and include cost estimates and potential timelines.

The east side of the stadium was upgraded during an $80 million project that began in 2002 and was completed three years later.

A west-side renovation would likely include a similar design to the previous renovation, including two levels and a roof. The lower level would include a bleacher section with sight lines so visitors can stand during events without obstructing the view of the people behind them.

“Our initial belief is that there is plenty of demand to build a loge section on the west side as well,” De Carolis said.

The renovated section would also include an expansion of the Valley Football Center in the north end zone as well as a new locker room and equipment and medical training facilities, he said. “There is no doubt that this would help recruiting,” he added.
