The evaluation committee tasked with choosing a development team for the Centennial Mills redevelopment reconvened on Thursday to review a revised proposal from and .

In early September, the Portland Development Commission was preparing to issue a contract with Harsch and Venerable for the project when Venerable’s president, Art DeMuro, died of cancer. The contract process was put on hold as a result.

鈥淚t was a pretty unprecedented event and a terrible tragedy and it was really an opportunity for everyone involved to just take a moment and make sure that this was a direction they were interested in and whether they still had the desire to pursue the project,鈥� said Shawn Uhlman, spokesman for the PDC.

The Harsch and Venerable team has now come back to the table with a plan for moving forward. Uhlman said he did not know whether the evaluation committee would make a decision on Thursday but said if the committee decided to move forward, the PDC would begin the process for issuing a memorandum of understanding with the developer.

The other development team in the final running before the PDC selected Harsch and Venerable for the project was of Seattle. Uhlman said any decision by the committee would still need to be approved by PDC’s executive director, Patrick Quinton.
