The Hillsboro area’s reputation as a software technology hub will soon be boosted.

, an Atlanta-based company that owns data centers across the country, will open a center on a vacant parcel of land off Northwest Evergreen Road.

The multimillion dollar center, which will be 200,000 square feet when finished, will hold data halls and office space. It will be modularly built, with two data halls being constructed at a time. Eventually, it will hold seven data halls.

T5 officials say access was the main reason the company chose the site.

鈥淔or our customers, access is key,鈥� said Aaron Wangenheim, executive vice president of T5. 鈥淥ur customers aren’t looking for the lowest cost; they want to know they can get to people and resources.鈥�

Affordability was another factor, Wangenheim said. The site is located in Hillsboro’s enterprise zone, meaning taxes will be reduced.

Once finished, the center, designed by , will use a unique sustainable strategy called indirect evaporative cooling, which will recycle cold air from outside to help cool the servers on the inside.

Construction on the project is expected to start in January. Bidding is currently out on the project; T5 is looking for local contractors to work on the project, Wangenheim said.
