Pacificmark Construction learned a lot on a five-month job installing health care equipment at Randall Children鈥檚 Hospital, knowledge the company says it will draw off of for other jobs.
Established in 2000, Pacificmark鈥檚 work includes new construction of condominiums, and tenant improvements that include work for medical offices, as well as for Multnomah County, the city of Portland and the Portland Airport.
But this was the first time the company had worked inside a hospital, one that was built adhering green building practices, said Deborah Matthews. She and her husband, Mark, own and run Pacificmark.
鈥淲e learned a lot about new ways of building and new technology and the way things are done in a hospital,鈥 she said. 鈥淲e鈥檝e done tenant improvement in medical clinics, but this was our first time in a hospital. It was a bit different, but fun and exciting.鈥
Part of the work included installing disposal containers, glove dispensers, and hand sanitizers. But Pacificmark also met the challenges presented in installing rehabilitation equipment such as parallel bars, platform swings, weight racks, crash rails and warming cabinets, as well as electronic 鈥渟mart boards鈥 for use by hospital staff.
Delays with some equipment and revisions of equipment lists often meant altering the work schedule, but Pacificmark met regularly with general contractor Hoffman Construction and hospital staff to ensure that everything was installed to meet stringent guidelines and stay within budget.
鈥淲e created new relationships and learned from Hoffman Construction that constant organization and communication is the key to the success of a project,鈥 Matthews said.
Pacificmark鈥檚 performance on the project earned high grades from Hoffman Construction project manager Brenda Alexander.
鈥淧acificmark鈥檚 enthusiasm to seek out new opportunities to expand their business and their high level of professionalism made them a welcomed addition to our team on the Randall Children鈥檚 Hospital project,鈥 Alexander said.
