2 Portland architecture firms win awards for health care projects

Two Portland architecture firms have won awards as part of .

The competition, put on in conjunction with the Center for Health and Design and the Vendome Group, recognizes innovative design in the realm of health care delivery.

won an award for its design of the Old Town Recovery Center, an outpatient healthcare facility for Central City Concern.聽 The facility won the award because of its home-like aesthetic, which is a departure from the traditional sterile health care facility, said Sheila Kim, associate editor of Contract.

won two awards: one for the Legacy Health Randall Children’s Hospital and another for the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Brooklyn Infusion Center in New York. Both used wood paneling, soothing color pallets and garden features to create tranquil environments for patients, Kim said.

The award completion has been going since 1989. In that time, other Oregon firms have won awards, including .
