ARCHITECTURE
FFA Architecture and Interiors Inc. recently added Bethanne Whalen as an interior designer. She has experience with tenant improvements, programming and space planning projects in the Portland area. She is working on numerous tenant improvement projects and other large-scale interiors projects.
CONSTRUCTION
John McKenzie, a construction health and safety technician and safety manager with JE Dunn Construction, recently received the GOSH Safety and Health Advocate Award. He also was named vice chairman of the Safety and Health Council of Associated General Contractors’ Oregon-Columbia chapter.
CONSTRUCTION
Bremik Construction recently hired Vaughan Reynolds as a licensed architect, Dean Lindstrom as a project executive, Scott Maxwell as a senior estimator and Josh Ring as a superintendent.
Reynolds has more than 18 years of experience in the architecture and construction industries. He serves as a consultant for the Green Building Initiative to certify green projects.
Lindstrom has 29 years of experience in projects such as high-rise housing, mixed-use, health care and light industrial.
Maxwell has 12 years of experience and has worked on projects ranging from small tenant improvements to large structures. He has served as a field engineer, a project engineer and a project manager.
Ring comes from a construction family and has worked on projects such as schools, religious structures, housing and transportation projects. He has served as an estimator and a project engineer.
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE
Michael O’Brien recently joined AAI Engineering as director of its landscape architecture department. He has more than 20 years of professional experience with a wide range of project types, including mixed-use, multifamily, commercial, recreation, health care and retail. He has focused on urban design and sustainability in particular. He previously managed the landscape architecture department of a local, midsize firm, as well as a partner in his own firm for eight years.
LAW
K&L Gates recently added Jack T. Conners to its Portland office. He is a senior associate in the real estate practice group, where he will focus on real estate-related transactions. Prior to joining K&L Gates, he practiced at Ball Janik LLP.
ENERGY
Richard Génecé next month will join the Bonneville Power Administration as its vice president of energy efficiency. He has more than two decades of experience with energy efficiency, sustainability and marketing. Most recently he worked as the residential portfolio manager of energy efficiency programs in Southern California Edison’s customer energy efficiency and solar division.

SOLARC Architecture and Engineering recently changed its name to SOLARC Engineering and Energy+Architectural Consulting to reflect its commitment to partnering with architects, owners and other design professionals to achieve exceptional energy performance.
LAW
The Naa Amerley Palm Education Foundation recently awarded five more Lane Powell/Lee Nusich scholarships to students attending institutions of higher learning in Ghana. Including the most recent recipients, a total of 46 Ghanaian university students have been awarded scholarships since the foundation was established in January 2009. The scholarship was named for Lane Powell and Lee C. Nusich, counsel to the firm in the Portland office and chairman of the board of NAPE Foundation, as a tribute to their support.
The five scholarship recipients and their course of study are:Â Maame Owusua Antwi-Larbi, business administration; Dorcas Adjorkor Adjei, education; Ernest Awutey, psychology and religion; Priscilla Esinam Yevu, management information systems; and Nanette Mawuena Taylor, management information systems.
