Dan Smith recently was appointed president of Charter Mechanical Contractors. He is fully responsible for all of Charter’s operations. The company’s former president, Ed O’Kelly, will continue to serve as chairman and CEO.

Pacific Lifestyle Homes recently hired Crystal Roth as its marketing coordinator. She has more than 15 years’ experience in marketing, advertising and design. She previously served the Fabric Shop Network, a trade association for independent quilt and fabric retailers. She also worked for more than a decade as designer and special sections advertorial coordinator for The Columbian newspaper in Vancouver, Wash.

ENGINEERING

Landau Associates, a Pacific Northwest geotechnical and environmental engineering and natural resources consulting firm, recently promoted two employees in its Portland office. Colette Griffith is now a senior project engineer and Erin Temple is now a level-three support staffer.

HISTORIC PRESERVATION

The Historic Preservation League of Oregon recently hired Tom Atiyeh as its chief development officer, a new position for the nonprofit. He is known in the business community for his leadership at Atiyeh International and his service in the nonprofit sector. He has served as executive director of Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center and chief development officer at Friends of Trees and the Conservation Biology Institute.

LAW

K&L Gates recently added Megan Crowhurst and Zac Padgett to its Portland office.

Crowhurst is an associate in the labor, employment and workplace safety practice group. She previously practiced at a Chicago law firm for six years.

Padgett is an associate in the corporate practice group, where he will focus on transactional law and finance. He previously was an associate in a New York law firm’s financial institutions group.

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

Mayer/Reed, a landscape architecture, urban design, visual communications and product design studio, recently promoted Ron Heiden and Kathy Fry to associate.

Heiden joined Mayer/Reed in 2006. He serves as senior landscape architect and project manager, overseeing all phases of design, from conceptual master planning to detailed construction documents. He directs technical production of some of Mayer/Reed’s most complex urban design and natural resources projects.

Fry joined Mayer/Reed’s visual communications group in 2008 as a designer and project manager. She has 10 years of experience in wayfinding, signage and exhibit design.
