Denise Gaskin recently was named chief operating officer of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt. She will be responsible for managing the firm’s overall business and operational functions. She will work with others in the firm to develop and advance its strategic, financial and practice-management objectives and ensure all administrative and operational departments function in a highly efficient, team-oriented and client-service-focused manner. Gaskin previously served as the chief operating officer of the Van Winkle law firm in Asheville, N.C.

In addition, Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt recently added Lauren Rogers to its Portland office as an associate in the business group. She previously was with Kell, Alterman & Runstein LLP. She focuses her practice in the areas of business formation, corporate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and general tax planning. She has experience with entity formation and succession and the tax aspects of business transactions.

REAL ESTATE

Norris, Beggs & Simpson recently announced its top producers for 2012.

Multifamily investment sales broker Robert Black was named top producer in the brokerage division. Downtown office broker Sean Turley was second, office broker Charlie Floberg was third and Vancouver office broker Tamara Fuller was fourth. Investment broker MaryKay West rounded out the top 5. Ken Griggs, president of NBS Financial, was named that division’s Finance Officer of the Year.

NAI Norris, Beggs & Simpson’s brokers completed 879 deals worth over $368 million in 2012. They sold 1.7 million square feet and 406 acres, and leased 2.6 million square feet.

NBS Financial Services originated 59 loans worth more than $337 million, and the loan servicing department serviced more than 400 loans with an approximate total value of $1.8 billion.

CONSTRUCTION

Skanska USA recently added four employees to its operations in Portland.

Sandra Pointer was hired as an EHS coordinator. She has acted as a safety manager for the manufacturing industry for the past eight years. She is OSHA certified.

Andrew Quiggle was hired as a superintendent. He has significant experience as a manufacturing, process and equipment engineer as well as an engineering manager.

Alissa Tseu was hired as a project engineer. She recently graduated from the University of Portland, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering.

Joseph Vanaman was hired as an EHS coordinator. He has been involved in the construction safety industry for the past six years.

CONSTRUCTION

The board of directors of the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber recently established a Latino Construction Contractors Committee. The purpose of the LCCC is to support the economic and professional development of Latino construction contractors in Oregon and Southwest Washington through activities conducted by the Hispanic Chamber. The co-chairwomen are Rosa Martinez, president of PMG Environmental Services Inc.; and Rhonnda Parsons Edmiston, diversity and business equity manager of Howard S. Wright Constructors.

LAW

Lane Powell attorney Jeremy Babener recently was elected to serve as vice chairman of the New Tax Lawyer Committee of the Oregon State Bar’s Taxation Section. The NTLC provides development, leadership and educational opportunities, and resources to lawyers new to the tax law practice. As an NTLC officer, Babener will support the activities of the work groups and report to the Taxation Section Executive Committee.
