ARCHITECTURE

Portland-based design firm Scott | Edwards Architecture recently named new principals and associates to its management team. Aside from founders Sid Scott and Kelly Edwards, these are the first principals and associates named in the firm’s 15-year history.

Principals are: Rick Berry, Peter Grimm, Jeff Hammond, Alden Kasiewicz, Brian Mares and Lisa McClellan.

Associates are: Jesse Graden, Joan Jasper, Andy Kraus, Jennifer Marsicek and Jason Wesolowski.

Berry was the first employee to join the firm in 1998. He has 18 years of experience, and plays an active role in the firm’s website design and social media programs.

Grimm also joined SEA in 1998. He has 17 years of design and management experience.

Hammond joined SEA in 2000. He has 24 years of experience.

Kasiewicz joined SEA in 2005. He has worked on a variety of projects for the firm.

Mares joined SEA in 2010. He has 14 years of design and management experience.

McClellan joined SEA in 2003. She has 18 years of architectural experience.

PLANNING

URS’ Portland office recently added Patti Kroen as manager of the water-environmental department.

Kroen also will represent URS as the Northwest region power business line leader. She is the deputy national hydropower practice lead, and is responsible for coordination of the Pacific and Mountain-South Central Group hydropower practices for the water and wastewater business lines. She has 30 years of experience in state and federal regulatory compliance activities. In the past two decades she has focused on issues related to water, including licensing/relicensing hydropower projects.

REAL ESTATE

Caryl Brown recently joined Kidder Mathews’ Portland brokerage division as a vice president. She is focusing on leasing and sales of retail properties throughout the Central Business District and the Pearl District. She formerly was with NAI Norris Beggs & Simpson, and has more than 15 years of experience in the commercial real estate industry.

SUSTAINABILITY

SERA Architects recently hired Scott Shumaker, Mark Perepelitza and Daniel Jenkins to augment its expertise in sustainable design for the built environment.

Shumaker is a civil engineer and district systems lead. He has more than 20 years of experience, with expertise ranging from infrastructure master planning to individual building systems. He has worked with integrated design teams to deliver sustainability-focused projects.

Perepelitza is manager of the firm’s sustainability resources group. It provides sustainable design expertise, research and development, and sustainability consulting services to all project teams. Perepelitza has 20 years of experience in architecture and building performance research, including expertise in building enclosure design and performance.

Jenkins is a public realm designer, and will focus on public space design in collaboration with the firm’s sustainability and design expertise. Jenkins is a registered landscape architect, and he focuses his work to create meaningful places that enhance the natural environment and establish community character.

BUSINESS

Steviva Brands Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of stevia-based and other bulk-ingredient sweeteners, recently hired Joe Severson as director of operations. He also is partner/chief operating officer at Trinity Hill Farms LLC, a manufacturer of all-natural gourmet condiments, marinades, sauces and salad dressings. Severson previously was director of operations at Chef George Inc. in Portland. He has more than 12 years of experience in the paper, packaging and facility supply industry.

ENGINEERING

Col. Anthony C. Funkhouser, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Northwestern Division, recently was promoted to the rank of brigadier general in the U.S. Army in a formal ceremony in Washington, D.C. In his role of division commander, Funkhouser oversees 4,800 workers and a combined $3.5 billion program in civil works, disaster response, military construction, and environmental restoration and cleanup carried out by five district offices. Those offices are in Portland; Seattle; Walla Walla, Wash.; Kansas City, Mo.; and Omaha, Neb.

ENGINEERING

Landau Associates, an 86-person environmental, geotechnical and natural resources consulting firm with an office in Portland, last month received an award for engineering excellence from the American Council of Engineering Companies. The firm was presented a Best in State: Gold Award for Originality and Innovation for its stormwater treatment design for the North Boeing Field Facility in Seattle.
