In our first ACE session of 2012, my team, Team 2, visited the project site, the former Washington-Monroe High School in Southeast Portland, and chose the Arts Addition as its project for the year.
This fictional project has been structured to be 10,000 square feet, and includes offices, classrooms and a performance space. Our team has been given a 鈥渃onstruction budget鈥� of $2.4 million, and has been given a list of deliverables and project sustainability goals (reduce energy use, incorporate recycled materials, etc).
After deciding on the Arts Addition and given a project summary, an ACE mentor specializing in architecture taught the students about the concept of a bubble diagram. After this lesson, the program mentors had a chance to talk about what they鈥檇 like to see with regard to a bubble diagram and building layout.
