JE Dunn Construction recently added Jim Ray to its Portland staff as vice president of preconstruction services. He has more than 20 years of construction experience in the Northwest.聽 Some of his work was for complex multimillion-dollar projects such as mission critical, micro-electronics, health care, mixed-use, high-rise residential, historical renovation and commercial office.

LAW

Pacific Northwest regional law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt recently added attorney Frank Erisman to its environmental law practice group in its Portland office. Erisman focuses his practice on mining, energy and other extractive industry clients. He is an experienced neutral arbitrator with extensive knowledge in the various areas of mining law, including mine financing, natural resources and public lands law.

Also, Jeremy Vermilyea, a shareholder in the firm, recently was presented the Associated General Contractors Oregon-Columbia Chapter President鈥檚 Award. He presently served as counsel to the chapter鈥檚 board of directors. He has previously served on the board as well as various chapter committees. Vermilyea focuses his practice on construction, commercial litigation, real estate and environmental law. He has more than 15 years of experience representing general contractors, specialty contractors, developers, design professionals and other industry members.

Also, Leora Coleman-Fire, an associate in the firm, recently joined the board of directors for Portland鈥檚 Q Center. Its vision is for a broadened positive perception of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people. Its mission is to provide a safe space to support and celebrate LGBTQ diversity, visibility and community building. The board provides governance to fulfill the center鈥檚 mission and vision. Coleman-Fire鈥檚 position is for a two-year term. She focuses her practice on labor and employment law. She is experienced in pretrial and trial motions, along with provision of legal research and writing memoranda, and document review.

LAW

Lane Powell attorney Shawn M. Lindsay recently was appointed to the board of Special Olympics Oregon, a sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. He has been actively involved with the Oregon charitable organization by serving as general counsel for Special Olympics Oregon on a pro bono basis. Lindsay is a member of Lane Powell鈥檚 business and intellectual property and technology practice groups. He focuses on representing clients with a wide variety of intellectual property needs, including representation in commercial and software licensing, e-commerce, privacy and security, interactive media marketing, establishing, acquiring, transferring, and preserving IP rights.

Also, Lane Powell recently received an award for the greatest dollar increase in contributions over the previous year from large law firms in Portland at the annual Campaign for Equal Justice luncheon. The firm鈥檚 representatives in the group are Michael R. Silvey, Vicki L. Smith and Kristen Tranetzki.

BUSINESS

Classique Floors of Portland recently added John Pertl, former owner of Pertile Masters, to its expanding staff of consultants. Classique Floors serves homeowners, commercial and rental property owners and tenants, insurance companies, remodelers, builders and contractors, and government agencies. The firm, in business since 1977, operates a showroom on Southeast Stark Street.

BUSINESS

The Hayden Island Business Alliance, which was created in mid-2011, now is active after months of planning and legal structuring. The group鈥檚 mission is 鈥渢o promote Hayden Island as a unique destination to visit, shop, live and recreate, and to enhance the connection to the surrounding Columbia River communities.鈥� HIBA has adopted formal bylaws, and become incorporated as a nonprofit organization with the Oregon Secretary of State鈥檚 Corporation Division. Its elected board of directors includes President Greer Kern and Vice President Mary Le Viner. Board meetings, held the second Tuesday of each month, are open to the public. FINANCE

Clark County-based Columbia Credit Union recently received the Albina Fuel Game Changer Award from Vancouver鈥檚 Downtown Association at its annual breakfast meeting. Columbia was recognized for providing high-impact, low-cost LED lighting to enhance downtown Vancouver, Wash. Ridgeline lighting was installed on six downtown buildings, lighting was added to eight city trees on Sixth Street, and spotlights were set in place for artwork at the corner of Evergreen and Main streets. Columbia鈥檚 investment resulted in an estimated energy expense of less than $100 per year for all three projects.

REAL ESTATE

The Portland Metropolitan Association of Realtors on April 10 will present Carolyn Weinstein, a broker with Hasson Company Realtors in Northwest Portland, the 2013 Realtor Good Neighbor Award at the Portland First Citizen Banquet at the Nines. The award honors a Realtor who has made an extraordinary commitment to improving the quality of life in his or her community.

For the past 40 years, Weinstein has sat on at least one nonprofit board of directors every year. She has chaired 12 major nonprofit fundraisers, and helped raise more than $16 million. Since 2005, Weinstein has become a mentor to the next generation of volunteers, training them on how to be productive committee and board members and passing along her fundraising skills.

Since beginning her volunteer work in 1960, she has served the Neveh Shalom Synagogue Sunday School, March of Dimes, Ventura Park PTA, Robison Home for the Aged, Jewish Federation of Portland, Non-Profit Agency Council, Jewish Review Newspaper, Jewish Community Foundation, Jewish Family and Child Service, Our Children鈥檚 Store, Urban Tour Group of Portland, Washington County Adopt a Road Program, Dress for Success, Goose Hollow Family Shelter and Community Warehouse.

In honor of Weinstein鈥檚 community efforts, $1,000 will be donated by the PMAR to Community Warehouse, her charity of choice.
