During the last meeting, we finally had to face our ideas. While many people debated what would work and what would be most efficient, we had to decide on the final basic idea. We could no longer have ideas that were way out there, and we had to focus in on the best.

Though all of our ideas were basically the same, we had to work out the minor differences between them. These ranged from how the entrance would look to how the classrooms would be arranged. Our final idea allowed us to keep the central performance space surrounded with classrooms.

The one big shift for us was having a separate entrance for the students during school and a different one for the guests during performances. This would solve the long debate in my group between efficiency and presentation of the building.

Our group also had to start thinking about ceiling limits of the building and what the elevations would be. Many of us, including myself, were surprised to learn of the high-roof expectations of a theater. When one member mentioned that the ceiling would have to be at least 40 feet high, many of us had to rethink our ideas of what the section views would look like.

This also allowed us to come up with something interesting to do with all this extra space above the school. We decided to bring back our original 鈥渄uck bill鈥� idea. This would make the building more presentable to the visitor entrance and earn us some more space for the catwalks above the seats.

Our group then split off into two sections. One worked to improve the section and cutaway drawings, while the other worked on what the exterior of the building would look like. We planned on making it look somewhat similar to the old red-brick school building that sits next to this space. We also wanted the bricks to fade away into a different type of wall as the building progressed away from the old school.

I worked with the first group in planning the ceiling heights and variations throughout the building. I enjoyed this due to the precise measurements and the impacting decisions. We worked out how things would blend from one height to another. This included an underground recording studio, which stood alone below the rest of the building. Our plan included a few important changes to the original design to help things fit together better.

Overall, our work created an idea that was both efficient for high-school learning and presentable for public performances. Our idea gets more complex and complete every time we meet. I personally cannot wait until we present this idea at the next meeting to the other groups. We have created an idea that everyone has put their ideas into and wants to work on. This is something that everyone finds exciting and all are very passionate about the outcome. Many members are working on nice drawings and renderings to present. These are being worked on outside of the meetings and show just how passionate people are about their work here. We all cannot wait to see how it turns out and where this project takes us.
