HDJ Design Group, headquartered in Vancouver, Wash., recently rehired Nicollette Roth to support transportation engineers and the firm鈥檚 site development group. She has more than four years of experience working on past HDJ projects.

BUSINESS

Standard Insurance Co., a subsidiary of StanCorp Financial Group Inc., recently promoted David Payne to vice president of short-term disability, absence management and contact center operations. He will continue to lead contact center operations and now assume responsibility for absence management and short-term disability product lines. He joined The Standard in 2009 as assistant vice president of contact center operations. He previously held professional roles at the Limited Brands and GE Financial Assurance.

COMMUNICATIONS

Public affairs professional Page Phillips is joining CFM Strategic Communications, bolstering the firm鈥檚 capability to address major public policy issues in Oregon and Southwest Washington. She will continue to serve as Washington state director for the Columbia River Crossing Coalition; she is responsible for stakeholder outreach and strategy as well as mobilization of local advocacy for the project. Phillips will work out of CFM鈥檚 Portland office.

FINANCE

Columbia Credit Union of Vancouver, Wash., recently appointed Nancy Olmsted to vice president of card services and hired Brad Hunter as vice president of marketing.

Olmsted has more than 25 years of credit union marketing experience, serving the past seven as vice president of marketing. In her new position, she will lead the credit union鈥檚 credit card, debit card and ATM products and services to achieve growth, sales, service and operational goals. She also will direct the department鈥檚 strategic planning, project management, and staff training and development.

Hunter previously served 13 years as vice president of marketing for Spokane Teachers Credit Union, and managed business operations as owner of The Hunter Group advertising agency. He will lead promotions supporting member needs for education, loans, deposits, wealth management and e-commerce. He also will execute marketing plans while overseeing all print and electronic communications, sales support, merchandising, public relations and internal/external communications.

David Bristol, former chief legal officer of First Independent Bank, recently joined Pacific Northwest regional law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt in its Vancouver, Wash., office. He is a shareholder and a member of the firm鈥檚 business and corporate practice group. Bristol has more than 20 years of experience providing innovative and practical legal advice in business and corporate matters, mergers and acquisitions, financial institution regulation, real estate leasing and development transactions, alcoholic beverage regulation, intellectual property, and international distribution. He is licensed to practice law in both Washington and Oregon.

LAW

John Mansfield, a shareholder in the Portland office of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, recently was appointed by Chief Judge Ann Aiken as a Ninth Circuit representative for the District Court of Oregon. The appointment is a three-year term. His duties will include representing the district at Ninth Circuit judges鈥� meetings and conferences. Mansfield focuses his practice on intellectual property litigation and advice.

Niki Lesko recently took over as director of marketing for Mahlum Architects鈥� Portland and Seattle offices. She will oversee the firm鈥檚 marketing and business development efforts, and interact with the firm鈥檚 executive team as it strategizes new initiatives. Lesko has been with Mahlum since 1998, and has served as marketing manager for eight years.

BUSINESS

Rutherford Investment Management of Portland recently was named by Informa Investment Solutions as a Top Gun Manager of the Decade for its multi-cap growth performance over the last 10 years. The company specializes in constructing multi-capitalization growth equity portfolios, which are individually tailored to specific client needs. The Informa honor is reserved for portfolio managers that (among other criteria) have investment returns greater than the benchmark for the 10-year period ending December 13, 2012. In Rutherford Investment Management鈥檚 case, the investment returns also exceeded those garnered by 99 percent of the group鈥檚 other firms. Rutherford Investment Management last year was acquired by Meadows Corp., a Nevada-based company.

CONSTRUCTION

Portland-based Walsh Construction Co. recently was one of eight organizations nationwide to receive the AGC in the Community Award from AGC Charities Inc. 鈥� the charitable arm of Associated General Contractors of America. Walsh was honored for its efforts to build Bridge Meadows, an intergenerational community that offers affordable housing, mentoring and educational resources. The 53,000-square-foot development features a library, a computer lab, tutor rooms, craft rooms, a community center and a spacious courtyard. The project required nine months of work and was supported by an employee giving campaign, company sponsorships, and equipment and labor donations.

CONSTRUCTION

McKenzie Commercial last month drew the No. 3 ranking in the small business category of the 20th annual 100 Best Companies To Work For In Oregon. The firm last year ranked 17th, and it was 12th in 2009. The list recognizes companies 鈥� in large, medium and small categories 鈥� for excellence in work environment, management and communications, decision-making and trust, career development and learning, and benefits and compensation. Also, principal owner Todd Glenz recently appointed Heidi Aldous and Chad Blilie as co-owners of the company.

DEVELOPMENT

TMT Development of Portland announced recently that it was awarded the 2012 Real Estate Customer Service Award for Excellence. CEL & Associates honored the firm for its superior customer service based on tenant satisfaction. This marks the third time TMT has received the award. CEL & Associates of Los Angeles compiles and analyzes survey data from thousands of properties, and then awards companies with client-satisfaction scores of at least 85 percent. Three satisfaction indices and nine business success factors are used to determine honorees.

Eighteen Tonkon Torp attorneys recently were named leaders in their field for the 2013 edition of Chambers USA: America鈥檚 Leading Lawyers for Business. The Institute of Real Estate Management recently approved Bluestone & Hockley鈥檚 Accredited Management Organization reaccreditation application, guaranteeing a 15th consecutive year of membership. Since April 1998, Bluestone & Hockley has been a member of the IREM鈥檚 prestigious AMO ranks for voluntarily subscribing to a code of professional ethics that governs business practices. The AMO recognition is the only accreditation given to real estate management firms.
