Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart PC, a labor and employment law firm that represents management, recently added a group of lawyers from Littler Mendelson. Howard Rubin, Larry Amburgey, Patricia Haim and Caroline Guest are shareholders, and Ursula Kienbaum is of counsel in the firm’s Portland office.
Rubin has represented public and private employers in the full range of employment and labor law matters for more than 25 years. His traditional labor practice includes the representation of employers in union organizing campaigns, interest and grievance arbitrations, unfair labor practice charges, labor agreement administration, and negotiations. In his employment law practice, he has handled wrongful discharge, discrimination, breach of contract, tort, and Employee Retirement Income Security Act claims.
Amburgey has more than 35 years of experience representing employers in the Pacific Northwest. In his traditional labor practice, he handles union organizing campaigns, unfair labor practice matters, labor negotiations, grievances, and labor arbitrations. He has arbitrated more than 500 cases. His employment law practice focuses on discrimination and wrongful discharge claims, as well as statutory claims.
Haim has almost 30 years of experience representing employers in labor, employment and business immigration matters. Her business immigration practice focuses on a number of matters, including I-9 requirements and compliance, and the filing of immigrant and non-immigrant visa petitions. She also advises clients on a wide range of employment law issues, including equal employment opportunity, wage and hour, hiring, performance management, termination, background checks, policies, procedures, handbooks, leaves, disability, and reasonable accommodation.
Guest is a labor and employment attorney with nearly 20 years of experience in the Portland market. Her practice is a blend of complex litigation, counseling and training. In her litigation practice, she has successfully defended clients in a range of matters, including claims of breach of contract, wrongful discharge, and discrimination based on gender, age, disability, and sexual harassment. Guest also provides proactive and practical counseling to help clients avoid litigation and achieve continued compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations.
Kienbaum focuses her practice on traditional labor relations and employment law issues related to discrimination and harassment, hiring, performance management and terminations, and independent contractor misclassification issues. She has experience representing clients in unfair labor practice charges, labor arbitrations, complaints of discrimination, retaliation, and harassment, and agency audits.
