Charmin Shiely, a shareholder in the Portland office of law firm Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt, recently was appointed to serve on the board of the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette. She has participated in the YMCA’s Strong Communities Campaign for six years, and has three children who are or have been in the YMCA’s child care program.

Shiely focuses her practice in the areas of business transactions, corporate finance and commercial finance. She is experienced in public and private mergers, public offerings and private placements, asset sales, securities law advising, and commercial finance. She frequently advises on structuring executive and equity compensation and business transition planning. She also focuses on transactions in the maritime industry, including vessel build contracts, vessel sales, vessel financing, charter parties and port leases.

In addition, Christiane Fife, senior counsel in Schwabe’s Portland office, recently was appointed to serve on the associate board of Start Making A Reader Today. SMART pairs adult volunteers with children in need of reading support and books.

Fife focuses her practice on product liability litigation. She represents businesses involved in automotive, pharmaceutical and medical device cases in federal, state and multi-district proceedings. She also regularly represents clients in consumer warranty disputes, disability and life insurance coverage, and premises liability adjudications. She advises manufacturers, distributors and sellers on the enforceability of product warranties and in drafting product warranties, disclaimers, warnings and limitations of liability.
