A San Francisco-based affordable housing developer already working on a project in the Pearl District may pursue one in Southeast Portland.

BRIDGE Housing is considering redevelopment of the former Salvation Army building at 139 S.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. In August, a pre-application conference notice from the Bureau of Development Services identified local developer Wayne Armstrong as the applicant considering a 12-story, 307-unit, mixed-use development at the site.

Lyn Hikida, director of communications and media for BRIDGE Housing, confirmed Thursday that Armstrong is working on the project as a development consultant for the company, which is analyzing the feasibility of a mixed-use development with a workforce and affordable housing component. She said the company preferred not to provide additional details at present.

If the project were to move forward, it would be BRIDGE Housing’s second in Portland. The company is partnering with Hoyt Street Properties to develop The Abigail – a $41.5 million, mixed-use project at Northwest Raleigh and 13th Avenue. More than 80 percent of the 143-unit development would provide affordable housing for individuals earning between $14,600 and $29,160, or for families of four earning between $20,800 and $41,640.

The Abigail is scheduled for a design review hearing on Nov. 21.
