Day CPM Services has been selected as the owner’s representative for the Multnomah County Courthouse construction project.

In that role, Day CPM will assist the county with a variety of critical tasks, including site selection and acquisition, programming requirements, procurement of future contracts for design and construction services and overall project management, according to Mike Day, the company’s president.

Ultimately, the county will make the final decision in those areas, Day said.

“It is a good sign that there’s some forward traction and momentum to move forward with planning of the new courthouse facilities that will be state-of-the-art and meeting the changing demands of the 21st century,” he said. “Day CPM is a strong supporter of the county’s vision of new courthouse facilities.”

Day CPM has served as owner-representative for the $295 million, 650,000-square-foot Collaborative Life Sciences Building and Skourtes Tower project in the South Waterfront District and provided project management assistance to Portland Community College for its $374 million bond program.

“It’s important for our company because it’s what we do,” Day said. “Our passion is serving municipal clients and institutional clients in both the public and private sector to make their projects successful.”

Day CPM will help determine the layout, footprint, size and initial configuration of the future courthouse building, county spokesman Hank Stern said.

The process to rebuild the 100-year old building is decades in the making, he said.

“There’s a lot of momentum on this going forward,” he said. “We are excited to work with Day CPM, which has a really strong track record with Multnomah County and around the state.”

The Oregon Legislature has allocated $15 million for the project, which could be funded via a combination of public and private sources, Stern said. An analysis by the National Center for State Courts, contracted by the county, will help determine a project price tag, he said.

Contract negotiations with Day CPM will begin this month and should finish by January, Stern said.
