Portland-based Electrical Co. received the Outstanding Contribution award from the Energy Trust of Oregon for performing lighting efficiency projects around the state that represent more than 4.3 million kilowatt-hours saved.

In one effort EC installed substantial light-emitting diode (LED) lighting in a 32,000-square-foot former Circuit City retail space that was transformed into a Kaiser Permanente medical office building in Northeast Portland. Additionally, EC installed LED lighting for a private client’s 955,000-square-foot parking garage in Hillsboro; it will save the client about 1.4 million kilowatt-hours (approximately $80,000) annually, said Chris Ernst, project manager in EC’s renewable energy group.

“It was not limited to LED technology,” Ernst said. “We installed other technologies and controls as well.”

EC this year will provide lighting for a second parking garage of the same size for the same client in Hillsboro. The company also has been awarded a contract to begin converting the city of Portland’s 49,000 streetlights to LED technologies over time, Ernst said.
