Four Sherwood High School students, all planning to pursue careers in architecture, construction or engineering fields, were awarded scholarships totaling $3,250 by Associated Builders & Contractors’ Pacific Northwest chapter.

The selections of Spencer Clay, Tyler Thayer, Kenneth Ballard and Jackson Roth were based on their extracurricular activities, career goals, and educational and professional goals, according to Laurie Kendall, president of ABC’s Pacific Northwest chapter. The awards were announced at a ceremony Feb. 28 at the Oregon Convention Center.

Clay, who received a $1,000 scholarship, will study construction engineering management and business at Oregon State University. The three-sport athlete has spent summers working for Interstate Roofing.

Thayer will use his $1,000 scholarship to study architecture at Portland State University.

Ballard, the recipient of a $750 scholarship, has been accepted to attend California Polytechnic State University in the fall. He plans to become a civil engineer.

Roth will use his $500 scholarship to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.

Several firms made donations that were used to fund the scholarships, including: Gladstone-based Watts Heating & Cooling, Portland-based Matteson Investment Resources, IRS Environmental of Portland Inc., Wilsonville-based Hydro-Temp Mechanical, Portland-based Pacificmark Construction Corp., Vancouver, Wash.-based Entek Corp. and Beaverton-based Accurate Balancing Agency Inc.
