A San Francisco-based affordable housing developer actively growing its presence in the Portland area has acquired an apartment complex in Hillsboro.

BRIDGE Housing, a nonprofit, has purchased the 111-unit Woodland Park Apartments from the Simpson Property Group for an undisclosed price. The garden-style apartment complex, at 280 S.E. 12th Ave., was built in 1980 and serves residents earning 50 percent of the area’s median family income, or $33,668 per year.

The property offers that affordability via proceeds from a federal housing assistance program that is slated to expire in October 2015. Lyn Hikida, director of communications for BRIDGE Housing, said the organization plans to rehab the units and preserve the property’s affordability using federal Low Income Housing Tax Credits and other monetary sources; however, it has not applied for those dollars yet.

BRIDGE Housing also recently acquired the Tressa, a 474-unit affordable apartment complex in north Seattle.

Locally, the nonprofit is developing the Abigail, a $41.5 million, 155-unit mixed-income multifamily project in the Pearl District. It’s also considering a 12-story project at a former Salvation Army building at 139 S.E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

BRIDGE Housing’s president and CEO, Cynthia Parker, said in a prepared statement that the two new acquisitions are part of the organization’s five-year strategic plan to expand geographically.
