Several construction bundles of Oregon’s – totaling several million dollars – are going out to bid.

The Oregon Department of Transportation is managing the project, in which the state’s aging radio system is being repaired and modernized. The work also is creating interoperability between emergency personnel.

The work ranges from construction of foundations and shelters and towers to electrical and grading work, said Tara Maffeo, procurement team lead for ODOT‘s major projects branch.

“We are trying to get information out to different contractors to bid on our different contracts,” she said. “We want to let them know there’s a lot of work out there to get competition and plenty of bidders to meet our timelines.”

The first three bundles – electrical, grading and tower work in Harney, Jackson and Lane counties – are listed on the state’s procurement network, ORPIN, at .

The Harney County project, which will close April 30, has four sites and is valued at between $140,000 and $175,000, Maffeo said. The Jackson County project, which will close May 15, has four sites and is valued between $700,000 and $1 million. The Lane County project, which will close June 3, has three sites and is valued at between $275,000 and $325,000.

The fourth, fifth and sixth bundles will have even more sites and project value, according to Maffeo. They will be located at various sites around the state.

“The feedback we got was that contractors didn’t necessarily care about geography,” she said. “They could manage being around the state. They wanted larger packages.”

The fourth will be posted in mid-May, include 13 sites and be valued between $2 million and $2.5 million. The fifth will be posted in late May, and be valued between $1 million and $1.2 million. The sixth will be posted in early August, and be valued at least $2 million.

A final, seventh project will be released sometime next year, Maffeo said. No project value has been determined.
