Lincoln City engineer Stephanie Reid recently was selected by the American Public Works Association as one of its 2014 Top Ten Public Works Leaders of the Year.

Each year, the APWA recognizes 10 public works professionals from the U.S. and Canada for their career-long dedication, professionalism and expertise serving public works infrastructure. Reid was the only professional from Oregon honored this year. She was nominated by the APWA’s Oregon chapter.

“I was very surprised to win,” she said. “I was shocked to be nominated as the Oregon nominee. That was an honor in itself just to be nominated by the chapter.”

Reid oversees engineering for the Lincoln City Department of Public Works. She has supervised a wastewater treatment plant upgrade and renovations to the Driftwood Public Library. She also managed updates to the city’s transportation systems and stormwater master plans.

Before taking a position in Lincoln City in 2005, Reid worked for eight years for the city of Portland in its Bureau of Environmental Services and water bureau. Previously, she worked in the Portland offices of Brown and Caldwell and Parametrix.

Reid will receive the award during a celebration Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Salishan Spa & Golf Resort in Gleneden Beach.

All 10 honorees will be feted at the APWA 2014 International Public Works Congress & Exposition on Aug. 17-20 in Toronto.
