Ankrom Moisan Architects is designing a six-story, mixed-use building to hold its new Portland headquarters.

The building on the corner of Northwest First Avenue and Davis Street is being developed by Portland-based .

Ankrom Moisan has occupied space on Southwest Macadam Avenue for more than 20 years, but has long sought an office space closer to downtown, President Tom Moisan said. However, the firm struggled to find a space large enough to house approximately 220 employees.

Staffers plan to move into the new building by January 2016; the firm will occupy about 44,000 square feet on the third and fourth floors. Plans also call for retail space on the ground floor, additional office space on the second floor and workforce housing on the fifth and sixth floors.

The move will be a nice change of pace from Southwest Portland, Moisan said, and bring staffers closer to other firms and the activity of downtown.

“I think the employees will really enjoy it,” he said.

Ankrom Moisan has scheduled a design advice request hearing with the Portland Design Commission on June 23.

Construction is scheduled to start before the end of this year. will be the contractor.
