An upcoming WoodWorks seminar in Portland will focus on the fundamentals of wood building design.

Wood design and engineering experts will lead the July 16 seminar “Compliance, Comfort, Durability: Fundamentals of Wood Building Design.” The event will take place from 8:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Morton’s The Steakhouse, 213 S.W. Clay St. Check-in will start at 7:30 a.m.

The seminar is geared to inform architects, engineers, developers and other industry professionals about working with wood, said Ethan Martin, WoodWorks’ Pacific Northwest regional director for design and construction.

WoodWorks, an initiative of the Wood Products Council, provides project assistance and hosts seminars and workshops to promote wood construction.

Topics in the upcoming Portland seminar will include the use and specification of preservative-treated wood to lock out moisture, insects and fungus. Experts will also cover achievement of energy code compliance and management of the acoustics in wood-frame buildings.

The cost is $40 per attendee and includes breakfast and lunch. Attendees can earn continuing education credits through the American Institute of Architects.
