Two Scott | Edwards designs last month were honored during the 51st annual in San Francisco. The recognize design excellence of U.S. and international projects submitted by builders, developers, architects and land planners.

The Innovative Composite Engineering headquarters, in White Salmon, Wash., was named best commercial project, and the Dougy Center, in Southeast Portland, received a Building Industry Community Spirit award.

Innovative Composite Engineering specializes in manufacturing carbon fiber, so Scott | Edwards Architecture designers found ways to incorporate the strong polymer material. It is used in stair treads and screen walls, principal Rick Berry said.

“We used a lot of the product around the building,” he said.

Scott | Edwards Architecture staffers designed the Dougy Center to fit in the surrounding residential neighborhood and accommodate the services provided there, Berry said.

“… We wanted to feel like it was warm and welcoming to people who are dealing with loss,” he said. “We wanted to create something that was soothing and calm.”
