A report issued by the National Center for State Courts will set a baseline for programming in the new Multnomah County central courthouse expected to serve state and county residents for at least 80 years.

The courthouse is expected to be 340,000 square feet to 360,000 square feet 鈥� roughly 20 percent larger than the current one, according to project team members who briefed county commissioners on the report; it’s expected to be released this week.

While no final decisions on courthouse contents have been made, the base programming needs will help inform the next steps of the planning process 鈥� including creation of a reference design concept, said Mike Day, president of Day-CPM Services, the owner’s representative for the project. The reference design will include a model of the future courthouse and show how different operations would work together, he said.

The reference design will be tied in with the site selection process as well as a business case analysis determining the courthouse construction cost and project delivery method. Possible financing methods also will be presented, Day said.

鈥淏y the end of the year, we hope to have recommendations on a site and have county approval for the budget and scope of work,鈥� he said. 鈥淲e’re definitely moving into that phase.鈥�
