A two-alarm fire that started late Wednesday atop the 103-year-old Yeon Building burned a rooftop deck, but was put out quickly before inflicting more damage.

The office of Portland-based engineering firm PAE, on the top floor of the 15-story building, experienced no fire-related or water damage, said Samantha Cross, an office assistant at the firm.

The building鈥檚 owner, Urban Renaissance Group, issued a statement saying no businesses had been disrupted by the fire, which was limited to an outdoor deck. The downtown building, at 520-530 S.W. Fifth Ave., was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Investigators on Friday were still trying to determine the cause of the fire, which likely was unrelated to an incident on an adjacent building in which a naked woman wrapped herself in an American flag.

鈥淭he investigation is still ongoing,鈥� said Damon Simmons, spokesman for Portland Fire & Rescue. 鈥淥ur investigator talked with her and there is a good chance that she鈥檚 not going to be related鈥� (to the fire).

More than 60 firefighters responded to the fire, which was spotted near midnight by a motorist on the Morrison Bridge.

The fire was extinguished in fewer than 20 minutes.
