While it is said that nothing is written in stone, Ann Sacks has made her mark in stone and tile in the construction industry.

She started Ann Sacks Tile & Stone in 1981 and built it into an industry leader with an Oregon showroom, Washington state showrooms in Seattle and Vancouver, and two manufacturing facilities.

She eventually sold the company to Kohler, but stayed on as president. Under her leadership, the company grew to more than 20 showrooms nationwide, expanded to include plumbing fixtures and supplies, added a major manufacturing facility, and employed more than 300 people.
After retiring from Kohler, Sacks helped found The Pixie Project, an animal rescue and adoption foundation. She also created FETCH eyewear, which donates all profits to The Pixie Project.

In 2005, Sacks started a new stone and tile company focused solely on commercial projects, including multi-family residential, hospitality, government agencies and large-scale retail developments. Design & Direct Source LLC is now an active participant in the stone industry on a global scale.

Sacks has long served as a mentor to her employees, helping them qualify for advancement both within her company and with other business. Although she is extremely competitive, she strives to maintain relationships within the industry that are more symbiotic than adversarial. At a recent conference in Miami featuring several hundred stone and tile manufacturers and distributors, she was introduced as 鈥渢he woman responsible for much of the success in this room.鈥
