The Great Recession was still casting ripples through Oregon鈥檚 economy when Jan Robertson stepped into the role of CEO at Norris, Beggs & Simpson Companies in 2011. But Robertson had a proven track record of being a capable leader at the firm, no matter how tough the market.

She first emerged as a standout in the company in 1993, when she became the first female partner. In 2005, she was named the company鈥檚 CFO. Three years after that, she earned the distinction of being the first woman to serve as president of the Oregon chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.

Guiding NBS through the recession was no small feat. Robertson kept the company moving forward while encouraging her employees to challenge themselves to excel.
While the economic outlook has improved in the past couple of years, Robertson continues to urge her company forward. She is actively involved in her company鈥檚 newest division, NBS Multifamily Management. Since its creation in 2010, the division has added more than 400 units to its residential portfolio.

In May, Robertson added another responsibility to her 鈥渢o-do鈥� list by taking on the role as head of NBS鈥檚 Property Management department, where she currently oversees a portfolio of more than 10 million square feet or property and 929 residential units. In the last year, the company has added numerous commercial and multifamily properties, including One Main Place and the 292-unit Eliot Tower.
