Lois Cohen of Lois D. Cohen Associates brings 25 years of experience to the podium when she speaks. Her keynote addresses and involvement with a range of organizations promote communication and professional growth, especially for women in the transportation, construction, architecture and engineering fields.
As the founder and president of one of the region鈥檚 鈥済o-to鈥 firms for effective improvement in the workplace, Cohen is a sought-after public speaker, public involvement strategist and workshop facilitator.聽 Programs she has created through her firm, Lois D. Cohen Associates, have been incorporated by the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industry, cities and counties throughout Oregon, Mercy Corps NW and the U.S. General Services Administration.
Her belief in the importance of educating future leaders, especially for the building industry, led her to create the innovative School-based Outreach Program. Since its debut in 2005, the program has helped more than 4,000 students gain exposure to careers in architecture, engineering and construction. In addition to visiting construction sites, students in the program have access to mentors and job shadow opportunities, and participate in hands-on workshops.
Cohen has been involved in the Port of Portland鈥檚 Mentor-Prot茅g茅 Program for nearly five years. She is an active member of the Oregon Association of Minority Entrepreneurs, and serves on advisory boards for The Link for Women. She also is involved in the National Association of Women in Construction, is a member of the Women in Transportation Seminar and is serving her second term on the citizen advisory committee for the city of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability鈥檚 Portland Plan.
