Mindy L. Lyman saw a need and made things happen, and her progressive approach is helping her build alliances and a strong career in the Central Oregon community of Bend.

Lyman recently left Bend-based Pinnacle Architecture to fill a position as a senior interior designer with BLRB Architects’ Bend office. The firm, which employs more than 60 design professionals, also has offices in Portland and Tacoma, Wash. Lyman’s professional portfolio features a range of work from commercial designs to socially conscious, award-winning projects. She has earned respect from her colleagues for her ability to establish relationships with local and regional developers. During her time with Pinnacle, she received the firm’s Innovation Award for maintaining the highest standard of innovation excellence. Lyman has presented seminars on sustainable interiors. She is an active mentor, working with Oregon State University graduates and participates in 鈥渟hadow day鈥 that give students a chance to see the inner workings of her profession.

She is a founding member of the High Desert Design Council, a nonprofit business league for interior design professionals in the Bend area that boasts a membership of 80 designers. Lyman spearheaded the creation of a council-organized annual design competition to help bring recognition to the work of local architects, artists and craftspeople. The group also has brought professionals together to benefit local charity remodel projects, including Grandma’s House for teen mothers and the Saving Grace women’s shelter.

Lyman also has provided pro-bono designs for the Teen Challenge recovery center and Abilitree, a resource for disabled adults. She is also on the BEND 2030 Board, a group dedicated to creating a future vision for Bend.
