A new entrance is being installed on the Amo DeBernardis College Center building at Portland Community College‘s Sylvania Campus in Southwest Portland. Inclined wooden trusses that will support glass panels are being installed over a former courtyard space, creating a light-filled entryway that will serve as a 鈥渇ront door鈥� to the campus. The campus’ 30-foot totem, 鈥淭he Welcome Pole,鈥� will be relocated from an outdoor location on the campus to the new entryway in order to protect it from the elements.

The project is being funded by the $374 million dollar bond measure passed by voters in 2008 for improvements at PCC’s campuses, of which $65 million is being spent at Sylvania. The project’s designer is GBD Architects, and the general contractor is Howard S. Wright.
