Crews with Lease Crutcher Lewis installed a roof made of cross-laminated timber Tuesday on a new building at the Oregon Zoo, marking the first use of the material in the state. A total of seven panels, measuring about eight feet wide and with a thickness of 5 陆 inches, were lifted into place atop a visitor center under construction as part of the zoo’s new Elephant Lands exhibit.

The 2,000-square-foot building was designed by SRG Partnership and engineered by Equilibrium Engineers, which is also working on a Western Oregon University project that is making use of cross-laminated timber. The $53 million Elephant Lands project, slated for completion this fall, is one of several major projects at the zoo funded by a $125 million bond measure passed by voters in 2008.
