A Dundee winery will soon gain a new tasting room designed by Portland-based SERA Architects.

Crews from general contractor Lease Crutcher Lewis are working to convert Argyle Winery‘s barrel room and cellars into a tasting room. Construction is scheduled to finish this summer.

The project is part of an effort to refresh the grounds of the winery, founded in 1987, said Steven Ehlbeck, a SERA associate. Along with the new tasting room, plans call for improvements to the existing tasting and spirits rooms, construction of a new parking lot and creation of a wine library to display Argyle’s most notable vintages.

The new 5,000-square-foot tasting room and small retail space will spill out onto a 2,800-square-foot outdoor, covered seating area that will be created by pulling the walls off a building formerly used by the winery for crushing grapes, he said.

The design team also incorporated wood salvaged from another former winery building into tasting room shelving and furniture. Old wine riddling racks were used to create large sliding doors. These touches aim to bring awareness of the site’s history as a winery and former hazelnut processing facility, Ehlbeck said.

鈥淥ne of the things we’ve been mindful of is looking for ways to share that history,鈥� he said. 鈥淭hat’s really a recurrent theme of trying to preserve the interesting parts that were happening there.鈥�
