OHSU starts process for new research center

Work on a new research building for the Knight Cancer Research Institute at Oregon Health and Science University won’t begin for some time, but the permitting process has begun.

Last week, Eric Wilson of SRG Partnership applied to the city for a pre-application design conference on the proposed structure.

The meeting with the city is set for Sept. 24, said OHSU spokeswoman Lisa Williams, but background material will not be made public until mid-August.

Earlier plans, as of December of last year, call for an eight-story, 332,000-square-foot building fronting Southwest Moody Avenue, just north of OSHU’s Collaborative Life Sciences Building and Skourtes Tower. The proposed building would be used almost exclusively by the university’s cancer researchers and include two levels of below-grade parking, a conference center, research labs, offices and ground-floor retail.
