The Business Diversity Institute is celebrating minority- and women-owned businesses in Oregon this week with a series of events focusing on innovation and leadership.

The 2015 Minority Enterprise Development week began Tuesday with a reception. A Diversity Practitioners Summit from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday was scheduled to feature guest speakers Collette Holt and Kimberly Papillon.

The events will wrap up Thursday with a morning of workshops for small businesses and an awards luncheon at the Sentinel Hotel in downtown Portland.

Workshop session topics will include using social media as a marketing tool to reach multiple generations, an overview of legal and legislative changes resulting from this 2015 session of the Oregon Legislature, and a series of TED talk-type presentations by three small business owners.

Award recipients to be honored during the luncheon include Energy Performance Engineering, the winner of the 2015 Minority Business Firm of the Year; Raimore Construction, selected as the Minority Construction Firm of the Year; Christine Moody, winner of the Leadership Award of the Year; and Gale Castillo recipient of the Legacy Award of the Year.

General admission for the workshop sessions and luncheon is $100 per person. A special rate of $60 for the workshop sessions and luncheon is available for DMWESB-certified firms.
