More than $9 million in grant money will go toward Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in 25 Oregon school districts.

Programs selected this year by the CTE Revitalization Grant Advisory Committee received between $146,796 and $488,432. Committee members are selected jointly by the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries and the Oregon Department of Education. They include representatives of private firms, industry groups, school districts, colleges and other educational institutions.

The revitalization grants will serve 鈥渄iverse communities around the state with programs focused on advanced manufacturing, engineering, agricultural science, app development, robotics, tourism, forestry, home renovation and health care,鈥� according to a press release.

Award recipients include a welding program in the Baker School District ($330,930), the Clatsop County CTE Center in the Astoria School District ($305,469) and the South Coast Healthcare Pathway Program in the South Coast Education School District ($418,488).

Previous allotments totaling $14 million were passed by the Legislature in 2011, 2013 and 2014.

The current batch of grants will leverage additional money from 277 local businesses and partners. The grant advisory committee is seeking to fund programs with broad community support, BOLI spokesman Charlie Burr said.

鈥淥ne of the things the committee looks for is strong local partnerships,鈥� he said.
