The Portland Development Commission has hired McDermott & Bull, a California-based executive search firm, to find candidates to replace Executive Director Patrick Quinton.

McDermott & Bull is headquartered in Irvine, California, but also has an office in Hood River. PDC staff members also are working with Enrique Washington of Generator Group.

Quinton announced in February that he would resign this spring after five years in the job; his last day will be June 8. The commission has scheduled for that evening a meeting that Quinton will attend, spokesman Shawn Uhlman said.

That meeting will also be Commissioner Aneshka Colas-Dickson鈥檚 last; her term is up.

The process to hire a new executive director will take several months, PDC policy manager Justin Douglas said.

鈥淎t this point, we likely will not have the executive director on board probably until early September,鈥� he said.

Until then, the PDC鈥檚 chief financial officer, Faye Brown, will serve as interim director. She has worked for the PDC in various capacities since 2007.

The PDC began advertising the position in early May. Pay ranges from $151,276 to $219,331, with a midpoint of $185,298.

Applications are due by June 10. The commission will have the final say on selection of the next executive director.

McDermott & Bull was hired after only a few executive search firms responded to a request for proposals issued by the commission in March, Douglas said.

The job ad boasts of Portland鈥檚 livability and the PDC鈥檚 role in projects such as Pioneer Courthouse Square and the Eastbank Esplanade. It seeks candidates dedicated to implementing PDC鈥檚 2015-2020 Strategic Plan, championing equity goals and communicating transparently.

The PDC encourages development in emerging and underserved areas of Portland. On May 5, the commission inked a landmark $88 million deal to take over the U.S. Postal Service鈥檚 14-acre site near downtown and the Pearl District. The PDC also guides development in the Pearl District, the South Waterfront District, Lents, Old Town Chinatown and other areas.

Quinton succeeded Bruce Warner as executive director in 2011 after spending several years in staff positions at the agency. The PDC has approximately 95 employees and an annual budget of $205 million.
